Symphony No. 5
Carl Nielsen
Jascha Horenstein / New Philharmonia Orchestra
1969 Very good sound.Top choice. Horenstein is an 'ideal conductor for a work like this,' a 'master at building and resolving tension.' The snare drum passage is 'wonderfully done,' the finale is 'captivating,' and the final chord is 'overwhelming'.
Thomas Jensen / Danish State Radio Symphony Orchestra
1954 Good mono sound for its series.Perhaps the most recommendable of the historical Danish recordings. 'Very intense,' with a 'feeling of freshness and spontaneity' and a 'sense of wonder'.
